Are you thinking of trying a new haircut and want to see how a buzz cut would look on you? Here are some things to consider before getting a buzz cut. More and more people these days seem to be getting a buzz cut, so you are not alone.
It is a bold statement that has been around forever. Both men and women are getting buzz cuts these days. It’s more fashionable in todays world for a woman to have short hair. A buzz cut just takes it to the extreme level!
A buzz cut haircut style is very low maintenance, requires fewer washes and dries fast. It keeps you cool on hot summer days and you don’t worry about bedhead bad hair days! But it is not for everyone and has a few drawbacks. I’ll explain both pros and cons below.

What is a buzz cut haircut style?
So just what is a buzz cut haircut? Some call it different names, like a military haircut or crew cut. At it’s core a buzz cut is a very short haircut, often using electric clippers over the whole hair area. The clipper guard size is often a number 0 up to maybe a 4.
The hair can be cut a uniform length overall or sometimes a little shorter on the sides and back, tapering up to a slightly longer cut at the top. You can even get “lines” or patterns cut into the hair with a razor, often on the sides.
The different types of buzz cut haircut styles are getting more popular, with movie stars and other famous people getting them. They look good on any skin color and are very easy to maintain. While all are short there are a few variations.

Different lengths of buzz cut haircuts
In general there are four main hair length styles of buzz cuts. All are short but some are longer than others. Some leave your hair with the same length overall and others have a slightly longer cut at the top.
Induction cut buzz cut
This is the shortest type of buzz cut, using clippers with no hair guard. The hair is cut with an electric clipper uniformly short all over. One step up from a shaved head!
Burr cut buzz cut
This is a step up from the induction cut, using a number 1 or 2 clipper guard. It leaves a little more length to the hair but is still very short. Hair is cut the same length all over.
Butch cut buzz cut
This is a popular cut, with longer hair at the top, around 1/4 to 1/2 inches. Then a shorter clipped fade on the sides and back.
Crew cut buzz cut
This one is a lot like the butch cut but with a more gradual taper on the sides and back so it leaves more length at the top. Sometimes the very top is shaved flat.

Best buzz cut for your head shape
Different buzz cut styles look better or worst on different head shapes. You should pick the type that looks the best on your face shape. Here is a general guide.
Best oval head shape buzz cut
An oval head shape is the best for almost any type of buzz cut. You will look good with just about any style!
Best round head shape buzz cut
For a round face it is best to go with a style that has a little more length at the top, then tapered sides and back. This gives the illusion of adding length to your face.
Best square head shape buzz cut
Soften a square head shape with a longer buzz cut style and subtle fades at the sides and back.
